Concrete, though dense and very hard, is actually a porous material much like wood. Its substrate contains tiny pockets and voids that are created during the mixing process where air gets trapped inside. Those pores allow concrete to absorb moisture and over time will cause damage, especially with our Minnesota’s freeze/thaw weather.
